What we offer

At Nama Youth Guardians, we are dedicated to empowering and protecting the children of Namaqualand. Through our range of programs, we offer safety, education, leadership development, and community outreach, ensuring every child has the support they need to build a brighter future. We focus on unlocking the full potential of every child we serve.

The problem

In the Northern Cape, 711 children were placed in the foster care system during the 2019/2020 financial year, while 426 children were placed in Child and Youth Care Centers (CYCCs), which include NPO-run homes and state-run facilities. Nationwide, approximately 309,453 children were receiving the Foster Child Grant as of 2021, reflecting the scale of foster placements in the country. There are currently only 2 registered child and youth care centres in Namaqualand and 0 safe havens.

These statistics highlight a pressing need for additional child welfare services in South Africa, particularly in the Namaqualand.

Our Impact during 2025

During 2025, we directly reached more than 60 children through our programmes, creating opportunities for learning, growth, mentorship, and hope. This year, we took children on an unforgettable educational adventure to the Augrabies Falls, exposing them to one of South Africa’s natural wonders and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Education remains at the heart of what we do. Through dedicated support and mentorship, we helped learners achieve remarkable academic improvements, including a Grade 7 learner who improved from 50% to 90% in Natural Sciences, and a Grade 4 learner who increased from 70% to 100% in English.

During the Christmas season, we provided food and support to multiple families facing hardship, ensuring that hope reached beyond the children in our programmes and into their homes. We also hosted a special Mini Christmas Celebration for seven children, creating a day filled with joy, gifts, laughter, and the reminder that they are valued and loved. Our annual Christmas production brought together 40 young performers and attracted an audience of more than 200 community members, giving children a platform to build confidence, develop talents, and celebrate the true spirit of the season. We believe children deserve opportunities to experience the world beyond their circumstances.

These achievements are more than statistics. They are stories of children discovering their potential, families finding support in difficult times, and a community coming together to create lasting change.
